Jawahar Vidya Mandir, a co-educational English medium school based in Ranchi, is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi and is managed by Jawahar Vidya Mandir Education Society, Ranchi. The school is headed by Mr. A.K. SINGH whose 38-year-long association with the school bears testimony to his passion for the school.
Mr. Singh speaks to SCHOOL Magazine:
I have been associated with every brick and student of the school since last 38 years, as a teacher, mentor, counselor, vice-principal and now as the Principal, the head of the Jawahar Vidya Mandir family, who always strive to pin the name of my school as the brightest star of the nation. Since we believe in the holistic grooming of the students, this makes my school different from others. We have been able to shape the soft clay into hard beautiful moulds standing out as humble but firm human beings of the society.
I feel proud to be known as a teacher of Biology in the society and the most important challenge that I have faced is to remove the fear factor from the minds of the students as far as the subjects Mathematics and Physics are concerned. These two subjects mainly help the children to crack the entrance exams for the prestigious Medical colleges. I aspire to convert the dreams of my students to become doctors into reality.
About the School
The combined effort of the members of the staff and students, I can visualize JVM at its pinnacle of glory, maintaining its excellence at the national and international levels, morally, academically and culturally.
The school provides the best soft skill and hard skill facilities to the students in the form of the best teaching and non-teaching staff and the most modern infrastructure to endure a comfort zone for the students so that they have the feeling of a home away from home at school. The students are encouraged to develop their hobbies and areas of interest under the able guidance of their mentors.
Extra-Curricular Activities at JVM
The school initiates nurturing the effective communication skills amongst the students by providing them various platforms by organizing various competitions like elocution, debates, dramatics etc. at the district, zonal and national levels. By organizing mock parliament and most importantly, encouraging the students to address the morning assembly on a daily basis.
The students are encouraged towards mass participation in the various sports and cultural activities by organizing various competitions to enhance their interest. The students participate in various inter school activities and have won many accolades to their names. Seminars and counseling sessions are held to groom their personality. The slow learners and the differently abled children are given special attention and the teachers encourage them by teaching in the ‘Play-Way Method’, so that they are able to at least take care of themselves.
The Teachers at JVM
The teachers of my school certainly provide an exemplary impetus to the teaching staff of the other schools of the state. They stand out as strict disciplinarian in their lives and motivate the students to follow them. They are extremely committed to their profession. Time and again they hold departmental meetings to apprise themselves of the novelty they could incorporate in their technique of teaching.
Student Achievements
During my tenure in this institution, academically the school has excelled and achieved its scaling heights by being the topmost school of Jharkhand. It acclaims of a colossal figure of more than 4800 students who have bagged a place for themselves in the prestigious IITs and NITs.
More than 300 students have secured the AIR between 1 to 500. More than 3000 students have passed from the renowned Medical Colleges like AIIMS, Maulana Azad Medical College, JIPMER, AFMC to name a few. Our students as scientists have reached NASA.
The school has a rich alumni who have cracked the UPSC examination. Our students are at the border fighting for their motherland after qualifying the NDA and CDS examinations. More than 150 students have set a benchmark in the judiciary. Our students have carved a niche for themselves at the international universities like the Oxford, Cambridge, Mayo Clinic School of Medicine, MIT, LSE, Stanford, Harvard, Yale etc.
There are many chartered accountants, company secretaries, business entrepreneurs who represent the Commerce stream of the school who have passed out from the famous SRCC, Delhi School of Economics, Madras School of Economics etc.
When we talk of the Humanities stream our students have been a part of the renowned colleges of India from St. Stephen’s Delhi, Hindu College, LSR to the Presidency College, Christ University and the list is endless.
The students have made us proud by securing ranks within 200 to join NID Ahmedabad and the famous colleges under NIFT.
Sports at JVM
Our students have set a benchmark in the field of games and sports and co-curricular activities. Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the iconic Indian Cricketer as the alumnus of the school is a leading light for the sports persons of the school.
More than 300 students at the state level and national levels have brought laurels to the school in various games like cricket, badminton, TT, Basketball, Kho-Kho, Rifle Shooting, Swimming, Handball etc. The students have stood out in the field of music, dramatics, Cinematography at the national level. Three students are the recipients of the ‘Bal Shri Award’ conferred by the National Bal Bhawan. Three students have been conferred with the ‘Chacha Nehru Scholarship’ by the Govt. of India. There are more than 500 students who are NTSE and KVPY scholars.

Thus, for me, as the head of the institution, with a rich legacy of 50 glorious years of dedicated service to the nation, JVM is the heavenly abode which has taught to grow like a banyan tree and every morning I face a new milestone to achieve. This leads me to quote Robert Frost:
