Established in 2009, Teach For India is a part of the Teach For All Network, a growing group of independent organizations that are working to expand educational opportunity in their nations. Headed by Shaheen Mistri as its CEO, Teach for India was instituted to address the issue of educational inequity at scale.

Teach For All is a platform for shared learning and deep engagement across countries. The 46 countries in the network today share a common vision that one day all children will attain an excellent education. Teach For America is also a partner in the same network.

Shaheen Mistri tells us more….

We are currently  impacting 38,000 students across 7 cities with the help of 1,100 Fellows and 280 Staff Leaders. Our Alumni Movement has grown to almost 2,500 members!

The Program

In the short-term, through our Fellowship program, we provide an opportunity to India’s most promising individuals to serve as full-time teachers to children from low-income communities in some of the nation’s most under-resourced schools. Through this experience of teaching in classrooms and working with key education stakeholders like students, principals, and parents, our Fellows get exposed to the grass-roots realities of India’s education system and begin to cultivate the knowledge, skills, and mindsets necessary to attain positions of leadership in the education system and identify their role in building a larger movement for equity in education that will create impact in the long term.

Teach For India Fellows commit two years, full-time, to providing their students with the opportunities that can put them on a different life path. The Fellowship journey is one of teaching and learning, of working for children while developing your leadership.

Our Fellows are placed in 2nd to 10th standard classrooms where they teach all major subjects — including English, Mathematics, Social studies and Science with the exception of regional languages.

The curriculum followed is the same as the one followed by the Fellows’ placement school – (usually State Board curriculum).
