Riddhima Krishnamurthy- Co-Founder – RobinAge & Bright Sparks (India’s leading weekly children’s newspaper)
Voted as the Best Activity Centre in India by KidsStopPress, a leading parenting website
Bright Sparks was started in 2014 as an extension of the RobinAge brand with motto of Care. Share. Dare. RobinAge is India’s leading weekly children’s newspaper. It offers afterschool and vacation workshops in music, theatre, chess, creative writing, art, science, robotics and mathematics that are taught by leading organisations and individuals in their field. Through Robin Age, Bright Sparks gets to meet and interact with lot of parents and children. With these interactions, the team has learnt that parents have different aspirations and developmental milestones in mind for their children. On the other hand, children want summer camps that are creative and exciting. Bright Sparks Summer camps are thus designed to meet both parents’ and children’s expectations, needs and demands.
When designing summer camps for children, you need to keep reinventing yourself. In other words, innovation is the key to overcome children’s reducing attention spans. Bright Sparks classes get children to think, do, create, learn and most importantly, assimilate knowledge. So whether it is mathematics, chess, creative writing or art, kids take home a wealth of knowledge and practical learning that they can apply to their day-to-day experiences at home and school. It caters to children aged 3 to 12 years and maintain a healthy student to teacher ratio of 7:1. Because they have a 7:1 student-teacher ratio, it is very easy for teachers to give personalised attention to each child and mould their approach to suit the child’s needs and requirements.
Ms Riddhima fondly mentions that they recently had a visually impaired student in our science class. The mother attended just one class to break the child into the class routine and since then he has been on his own, and doing well too! She points out that their greatest challenge is to be one step ahead of the demands of parents and children and find partners who will offer the kind of quality content that will keep both parents and children interested.

While discussing about the creative thinking skills and innovative programs, she says that in her observation, both children and parents are exposed to a great deal more than they were say even five years ago. The Internet and television have shrunk the world. The more the exposure, the more the child wants to know and parents want to provide information in a structured manner in order to channelize the child in the right direction. Parents also want to provide the best they can afford for their child. Be it in sports, education or extra-curricular training, parents want to fuel their children’s passions, give them well-rounded exposure and make their child better adept at dealing with the future. Whichever way you look at it, the end result is that children gain a wealth of knowledge that builds personality. We work to provide the best available learning opportunities to children under a single roof. She concludes this interview saying Summer Camps at Bright Sparks are built around the idea that, ‘The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.’
